For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Have been pondering since morning, that most of the times it’s our ‘Good Intentions’ that put us into unnecessary problems. Well, most of the times they do. The bad temper is of course the reason of not being able to convey the right thoughts in right approach at the right moment.
Speak when you are angry - and you'll make the best speech you'll ever regret.”
- Dr. Laurence J. Peter quotes
When you think of good, ought to take a right step, suddenly something irritates you and the good become a thing of past. Emotions overflow (read: explode) and here you are, already a culprit. No matter, what your intentions were. Your anger made you lost the beauty of that moment, that hour, that evening, that day or may be more. And we end up loosing the opportunity to smile, to laugh, to hug and some moments to cherish, may be.
I have been coming across many presentations, articles and discussions on Anger Management but then do they really help us in someway? I was thinking that any therapy of this kind is more mental then medicinal. If one thinks one can control oneself, he/she surely can. But when one doesn’t even try to understand and denies listening to the other person the problem increases. People get angry on petty differences of opinion, view, choices etc.
When anger rises, think of the consequences”
- Confucius
Worst is when that a situation is stretched and stretched for a longer time period. We forget to realize that, to show 1 minute of anger we are loosing 60 seconds of happiness. And this 2 digit number makes a better impact. Anger is also a cause of stress, high blood pressure etc which again gives more moments of panic and suffering. Where as, if we plan to sort out the differences in the soonest possible time and get ready for more smiles, life will be easier. All one needs is acceptance & patience.
“Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.”
- Buddha

Hi jigyasa,
Truely an very aptly written article as we all, tend to forget that life is too small to love and to be loved and in between the moments are stolen by anger, sometimes bcoz we were not able to represent what we actually want to say, and sometimes what we actually say hurts others.
Though I generally got angry when I saw something wrong happening around ,it fumes me and I lost my control on tongue or sometimes just tight my bottlecock and try to avoid the situation . But the tyranny is then I became angry with myself as could not speak the truth.Hehehe.. So the circle goes on. But its true that anger spoils 60 secs of happiness.
mahek:)

Welcome to my space....I agree to what you have said, and yes life doesnt offers the chance to say things as they are, always!! And thats a good enough reason to feel irritated n may be angry but still the control over the tongue and balanced approach is inavitable. I hope you agree to this.
Keep visiting. Keep Smiling!!
:-)) easier said than done actually.
but life does teach lessons one never forgets... or rather it mellows u down over time.
These are good quotes. And you did well with each. :-)
Btw, I wrote you an email just awhile ago. Let me know if it got through to you without a hitch.
See you around.
Blessings to you and your family.
@ jigyasa ...
good one ...
Hie Jigyasa,
probably my 1st visit 2 ur post. & what u write @ is such an important aspect, specially in todays world.
we get angry at the other person cause he/she has not thought &/or acted the we want him/her to.
& we not only end up wasting the 60 seconds of hapiness but also gradually hurting ourselves, our body chemistry :((

@ Busybee

Keep Visiting.
Keep Smiling!!

Sometimes getting angry is a good quality...remember goddess durga?....getting angry leads to destruction...and destruction of old things leads to the creation of new, better things
Anyone can become angry -- that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way -- this is not easy.
